Job Description

General Responsibilities

The Klickitat School District is a K-12 district located in the Columbia River Gorge serving about 90 students in Klickitat County, WA.


Assignment: The Klickitat School District is seeking an energetic and student-focused candidate for our Secondary English Language Arts Teacher position. The ideal candidate will have a passion for enhancing English language arts learning opportunities for rural students of various ages and ability levels, and a commitment to going above and beyond to support students in achieving their personal and academic goals.


The position primarily involves teaching English language arts for grades 6-12 in small class sizes. Specific course offerings may vary from year to year based on student needs. Additional teaching duties and course assignments may be adjusted to meet the needs of students and the district.

The district will consider a long-term Substitute that will work through June 12, 2025.

Salary: Teacher pay scale currently ranges from $54,308.00 – $102,360.00 annually based on education and experience. Other extracurricular roles and pay stipends may also be available. Contact the district for more information.

Essential Functions/Other Functions

Essential Functions:
The following responsibilities are required of the position, plus any other duties that may be required by the employer. Specific duties and responsibilities will be assigned by the building administrator.

  1. Teach and instruct high school students at all levels of English language arts.
  2. Develop lesson plans and teaching outlines using Washington State Standards.
  3. Teach using a variety of methodologies, including inquiry, demonstrations, discussions and technology/laboratory experiences.
  4. Plan, develop, and utilize a variety of instructional materials and aids appropriate to the intellectual and instructional level of students from varied socio-economic backgrounds who possess a range of mental and emotional maturity.
  5. Provide group and individual instruction to motivate students and effectively utilize the time available for instructional activities.
  6. Prepare, administer, score, record and report student growth data.
  7. Counsel, confer with, and communicate with parents and school/district personnel regarding pupil progress.
  8. Monitor children's interactions and nurture cooperation and team building.
  9. Collaborate with all school staff members.
  10. Follow and comply with teaching standards and safety regulations.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications & Skills

Minimum Qualifications:

  1. Bachelor's Degree.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. Teaching Certification.
  2. English Language Arts or related endorsement(s).
  3. Prior teaching experience.

  1. Successful completion of a criminal history and fingerprint check through the Washington State Patrol and FBI.
