DESCRIPTION:
Provides speech and language therapy services in the areas of student assessment, direct therapy, training and consultation for staff, parents, and equipment including assistive technology or adaptation to enable students to function to their highest possible level within the educational system. Participates as a member of a multidisciplinary team in the assessment and program evaluation for students. Acts as a liaison with medical and community service providers on behalf of children and their families.
PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide direct, indirect, and consultative therapy services to eligible students with communication disabilities in the areas of speech and language skills that have an impact on their educational performance.
- Review educational and medical records and perform assessments in all essential areas of communication. This also includes assisting with district hearing screenings.
- Participate as a member of the multi disciplinary team to plan interventions and monitor progress for students struggling with communication and language-related academic issues (e.g. phonemic awareness).
- Consult with parents, teachers, and other staff and provide recommendations to facilitate improved performance in the classroom or at home.
- Implement intervention programs including direct services and/or on-going consultation to classroom teacher and parents.
- Maintain accurate comprehensive data on students to document current levels of performance, determine progress and effectiveness of therapy, and other pertinent information.
- Use computer applications for word processing email, basic Internet navigation and Special Services documentation.
- Identify equipment and assistive technology needs and assist in securing, fabricating, adapting, and maintaining the equipment.
- Manage a caseload as determined by district need including timely documentation for evaluations, IEP's, Medicaid reimbursement, and other forms of reporting using computer applications as needed.
- Communicate and/or consult with medical professionals through oral or written reports and conferences to facilitate implementation of therapy programs.
- Provide supervision of assigned speech and language therapy assistants.
- Adhere to the ethical standards and codes of the profession and to the established rules, regulations and laws governing special education programs.
- Participate in activities that promote professional development for district initiatives as well as in the specialty field, and use clinical-educational research information to enhance speech and language therapy services.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Current SLP license/ESA certificate
- Strong communication skills, both written and oral
- Strong reading, writing, and cognitive abilities
- Critical thinking skills to analyze assessment data and create treatment plans
- Experience with Skyward, IEP Online and Google Applications (Gmail, Drive, Docs, Sheets, etc)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.
- Occasional stooping, bending, and reaching.
- Requires travel between schools.

*Posted salary range based on DEA Salary schedule for SY 24-25 (pay increase for SY 25-26)
